Box Contents April 2, 2008

This week's box includes:
  • Celery
  • Parsnips
  • Mustard Greens
  • Purple Carrots
  • Spinach
  • Cardoons
  • Salad Mix
  • Erbette Chard
  • Meyer Lemons
The carrots and parsnips will become baked fries on Thursday night. Everything else (including the escarole, agretti, and fennel we still have on hand) will get cooked and frozen, since I leave for a business trip early Friday morning.

Business travel brings me back to a favorite find from last season: the Evert Fresh bag. The ability to occasionally hold vegetables from week to week is a very good thing. These bags really work, though they are second to sharing the box contents with friends -- fresh is always better.

Here's how we used last week's contents:
  • Leeks: Cabbage Kimchi
  • Spigariello Greens: Sauteed with Garlic and Roast Squash
  • Fennel: pending
  • Winter Squash: Roast Squash
  • Agretti: pending
  • Chantenay Carrots: Baked Carrot Fries
  • French Breakfast Radishes: Cabbage Kimchi
We used the cabbage from the March 19th box in the Cabbage Kimchi too. So far this year, no food from the box has ended up in the compost bin.
