Box Contents April 9, 2008

This week's box includes:
  • Chantenay Carrots
  • Salad
  • Arugula
  • Radishes
  • Leeks
  • Fennel
  • Agretti
I'm actually on a business trip this week, so my dear friend and fellow CSA fan, Teresa, picked-up the food and will consume the contents. While certainly simple, this is an important concept - finding a interested contact who can step in when you are out. With our CSA, the pick-up site hosts decide what to do with any abandoned boxes.

Here's what we did with last week's box: ...nothing yet. I left town last Friday, roughly 36 hours after the box arrived. I simply did not have time to do anything with the food. My husband reports *everything* is still in good shape, so we can use it up when I get home this weekend.

The first item hit the compost pile this week: fennel from March 26th. I need to get my dehydrator out for the season. When all else fails, veggies can be dried for use in soups, etc. when the growing season is over.

  1. Right with you there. We've done nothing with last week's box. We actually split our share w/another family so we only need to think about every week, but even so we haven't managed a single item from last weeks box. Like you, I was out of town last weekend and since I leave tomorrow for Cleveland the early part of this week isn't looking so good either.

We haven't have anything hit the compost yet, but I'm guessing this week will be the week...

  2. Tough isn't it? I'm traveling next week too. Your idea of splitting with another family is a great one.

Even if I compost, I still feel pretty good about CSAs. :)
